Community Service League opens 2019 Angel Tree Program

Event helps purchase Christmas presents for 111 local foster children

JACKSON COUNTY, AL – For the past twenty-five years the Community Service League (CSL), under The Mountain Lakes Chamber of Commerce, has promoted the Angel Tree program.

This community service project has only two goals: provide every foster child in Jackson County with Christmas gifts as well as scholarship opportunities.

There are approximately 111 foster children in Jackson County that are in the custody of The Jackson County Department of Human Resources (DHR), ranging in age from infants to 18 years old and live in the area with local foster families.

Every year these children make a personal list for Christmas, but due to limited resources, DHR cannot provide extra money to the Foster families for the holidays to fulfill these children’s Christmas wishes.

The Angel Tree Program is a highly trusted community Christmas Charity that continues to provide 100 percent of donations to benefit Foster Children in the Jackson County system and have begun taking donations in two forms:

  1. Come by the Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a Child. Here, you have the choice to either donate $125 for us to purchase the gifts or pick up a wish list and purchase gifts for the child of your choice.
  2. When you sign up to participate in the Scottsboro Christmas parade, every $10 entry fee goes towards additional Christmas gifts and/or the foster child scholarship fund.

While we spend approximately $125.00 per child, donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. If you do select a child from the Angel Tree, all purchases need to be delivered to DHR located at 305 Bingham St., Scottsboro, by Mon., Dec. 2nd in order for the children to receive gifts in time for Christmas.

As the holiday approaches and your committee, school, church or family begins choosing someone less fortunate that needs assistance, I hope you will consider providing support for these children by making a donation.

The angels will be available for selection from the Angel Tree, at the Chamber office starting Monday, November 4th until Friday, November 29th.

Thank you in advance for your time and donation.
