Man dies in hunting accident

A  man died Sunday during hunting trip in Jackson County.

Chief Deputy Rocky Harnen of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, said John Straka, 57, of Brownsboro, was on a hunting trip alone in Hollytree.

The family reported him missing, noting that he had not returned and that he was not answering his phone.

Scottsboro-Jackson County Rescue Squad, Rosalie Rescue Squad and Valley Fire, along with the sheriff’s office, responded to the area off County Road 12.

Rescue personnel located Straka and it appeared that he fell from a tree stand ladder. Other details of the accident have yet to be released.

Straka was pronounced dead at the scene.
